There is a growing interest by funders to understand the Latinx racial equity experience as a mechanism to inform resource distribution for social transformation. During this half-day workshop Latinx participants will work towards a unified way to talk about the intersection of social issues affected by paradigms rooted in colonialism; such as patriarchy, colorism, anti-Blackness, and anti-Indigeneity. This interactive session will identify how those phenomena permeate Latinx culture and perpetuate, often unknowingly, the very beliefs and practices that reinforce systems of oppression, inequity and racism present in philanthropy and the larger social sector. Moving from awareness to aligned action with others is the long-term work of HIP's commitment to increasing power, voice, and influence in philanthropy. This advanced lab from the Philanthropic Initiative for Racial Equity and Funders for LGBTQ Issues is an opportunity for grantmakers with an established focus on racial equity or racial justice and commitment to LGBTQ communities to take their practice and analysis to the next level. The day and a half convening is designed to deepen funders' knowledge and strategy development on current critical issues at the intersections of structural racism, LGBTQ issues, gender justice, and more.

This pre-conference event spans both Monday, November 18th and Tuesday, November 19th. It is ideal for teams of 2-3 representatives from each grantmaking foundation, ideally including at least one senior level member.

​

 

This is an invitation only event, but if you have an established focus on racial equity or racial justice, a commitment to LGBTQ communities and would like to attend, please indicate your interest by clicking the box above.  Once we have reviewed your requests, eligible grantmakers will receive notification of acceptance with a formal invitation and registration information within 3 weeks.

If foundations are to transform their people and practices - they need to embrace a broad 21st-century equity agenda that includes targeted investments for communities of color, including Latinos. Hispanics in Philanthropy is partnering with BoardSource for this thought provoking conversation to inspire individual and joint action. This convening is the final session in a series of Trustee Conversations in 2019 and will present data from the previous gatherings and integrate lessons learned from ABFE.

Over the past 30 years, Native Americans in Philanthropy has become a powerful and continuously growing network of Native and non-Native nonprofits, tribal communities, foundations and community leaders. Now more than ever is the time to expose the TRUTH about the challenges Native people face in the United States. We also believe it is the right time to highlight and accelerate efforts being made toward HEALING from the historical and intergenerational trauma we continue to endure. This exercise leads people through a powerful educational and transformative exercise first developed by KAIROS in Canada to educate during their Healing decade. It is a historical narrative experience that quickly and effectively informs the participants about the truths often not told in our country about Native peoples and why healing work is so critical. This event will encourage partners in the philanthropic, non-profit, activist, youth and communities to pledge to share The Blanket Exercise in their own spaces nationally in the next year to help create Cultural Shift and Narrative Change.
